Kurihara's art is inspired by Japanese street festivals, traditional masks, animations, picture books, and abstract conversations with oneself. In this sticker collaboration, he has created a series of painted, masked figures.
Such figures can also be found in his larger, more abstract paintings. Kurihara likes to work with his old canvases and paint over them again and again. He always leaves the original painting in place, it is never completely painted over - something of the past always remains visible. "It's like I'm talking to myself in the past," he explains.
We met Kuri in one of Berlin's free art spaces that no longer exist. Making music, creating art together, staying up all night... back then there were more places for such spontaneous get-togethers. Now, 10 years later and shortly before Kuri returns to his Japanese homeland, we are presenting you with this very special sticker pack and are looking forward to spreading the word about his little monsters.
